After having announced his retirement from IPL as well, Ravichandran Ashwin has shared his intention to expand horizons and feature in a new role as the coach-cum-player in any overseas league.
Recently, former CSK veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin announced his retirement from the Indian Premier League and ended all his bondages to the BCCI. As per the rules of the BCCI, no player associated with the Indian association can feature in other global T20 leagues around the world.
Though 38, Ashwin would still have a lot to offer to world cricket, since MS Dhoni, who is 6 years older than him, still goes strong and continues to feature in the IPL for the Chennai Super Kings.
No dearth of options for Ravichandran Ashwin - Open to dual role as coach-cum-player
Post his retirement from the Indian national side and IPL cricket, Ashwin seems to be a free bird who can explore several new options. There seems to be no dearth of options for the legendary spinner.
Though Ashwin has also shown an inclination towards taking up a new role as the coach-cum-player in overseas leagues, since he brings along immense international experience from his decades-long career.
Commentary could also be a great prospect for Ashwin, as many former cricketers have taken up the same role, while his cricketing brain makes him an ideal candidate, having potential in administration too. However, for now, it seems Ashwin only looks firm at extending his playing career for the years left.
Ashwin targets MLC, SA20, and The Hundred among overseas leagues
On Ashwin's radar, there might be three major leagues from around the world, except for the IPL. The Hundred, which is an exciting tournament in England, as Ashwin has expressed a desire to feature in as the first Indian player in the tournament.
Another such major prospect is in the Major League Cricket (MLC) in the United States and the ILT20, which will be played in the UAE. Cricket South Africa organized SA20, which is also likely to complete the mix if Ashwin looks forward to featuring as the coach-cum-player.
It should be seen how it plans; however, as per Cricbuzz sources, the officials from all leagues around the world have reached out to Ravichandran Ashwin, which also includes the Big Bash League in Australia. A coach-cum-player role seems a natural fit since he has often been regarded as one of the most cerebral cricketers throughout his career.
ILT20 is the potential target of the former CSK player this year
Since all these leagues have many Indian owners, they might show interest in Ashwin, as they are well aware of his calibre. SA20 is not possible any further since the teams have been picked, and the SA20 auction register is also done, as per Cricbuzz sources.
The ILT20 is a potential target in the coming year, where two of the six franchises are owned by Indian owners who would be happy to bring in Ravichandran Ashwin as a great possibility. The auction is likely to take place on the 30th of September, where the teams are allowed to sign one player outside of the salary cap.
