Rinku Singh entertained the Arun Jaitley Stadium crowd with his thundersome batting during India’s biggest win in the second T20I against Bangladesh on Wednesday, October 9. The explosive batter proved why he is considered the next finisher for Team India with his magnificent fifty.
The Indian cricket team delivered a commanding performance to record a dominant win of 86 runs, taking an unassailable 2-0 lead in the ongoing three-match T20I series against Bangladesh. It was the biggest margin of win by runs for India against Bangladesh in a T20I match.
Rinku Singh and Nitish Kumar Reddy's stunning partnership powers India to dominant win over Bangladesh
The hosts had a shaky start with the top three batters falling within the powerplay against Bangladesh, and then the spotlight shifted to the young guns, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Rinku Singh, at the Arun Jaitley International Cricket Stadium in Delhi.
The duo launched a stunning counterattack, stitching together a brilliant 108-run partnership for the fourth wicket to put the Men in Blue in commanding position in the second T20I. Reddy and Rinku’s fearless assault left the Bangladeshi bowlers in tatters as both batters made fifties.
The onslaught didn't stop there, as Hardik Pandya's timely cameo of 32 runs off just 19 balls pushed India to a formidable total of 221/9, leaving Bangladesh with a mountain to climb. Chasing the target, Bangladesh faltered early, losing four wickets for just 46 runs within the first seven overs.
However, Mahmudullah showed some resistance with a lively knock of 41 runs off 39 balls, but it was far from enough to rescue his side, as Team India kept their control on the game, never allowing the tourists to find any momentum, and eventually won the game by 86 runs.
Rinku Singh opens up about how MS Dhoni's words help him in tough situations
After the match, Rinku Singh opened up about his thought process, saying he approaches challenging situations with a calm mindset, which is something he has developed over time from consistently playing in pressure positions. The left-handed batter said that his preparation is tailored to handle such moments effectively.
Rinky further went on to reveal that his conversations with MS Dhoni have further refined this approach, instilling him a lot of confidence when the team faces such early setbacks. The 26-year-old batter further noted that self-confidence becomes key in difficult situations where multiple wickets fall.
Rinku Singh said at the post-match presentation: “I keep telling myself to remain calm in tough situations. It comes naturally to me as I have been playing in this position for a long time. I practice accordingly as well. I have talked a lot regarding this with Mahi bhai (MS Dhoni) which has helped. When you lose 3-4 wickets, you need to have self-belief.”
Rinku Singh reflects on his match-winning partnership with Nitish Kumar Reddy
Reflecting on his partnership with Nitish Kumar Reddy, Rinku emphasized the importance of building a steady stand on a slow wicket, focusing on rotating the strike and capitalizing on loose deliveries.
He added that a crucial moment came with a free-hit off Mahmudullah, which shifted the momentum and boosted Nitish’s confidence, helping them take control of the game.
Rinku signed off by saying, “We just wanted to build a partnership as the wicket was slightly slow, rotate the strike, and punish the bad balls. The momentum swung after that free-hit (off Mahmudullah) and Nitish gained a lot of confidence.”
