Rishabh Pant, Axar Patel to be retained by DC for IPL 2025; Kuldeep Yadav could be released

In a big development, the Delhi Capitals franchise is set to retain their captain Rishabh Pant for the IPL 2025 season. The Capitals are also set to retain Axar Patel and are likely to appoint him as the permanent vice-captain of the team.

However, there is no certainty on Kuldeep Yadav as the left-arm wrist-spinner might go into the mega-auction. It is believed that Delhi Capitals are interested in retaining Kuldeep but it all depends on his retaining amount.

Delhi Capitals set to retain Rishabh Pant and Axar Patel for IPL 2025

Rishabh Pant and Axar Patel were DC's captain and vice-captain in IPL 2024 and the management seems interested in retaining the same combination for the leadership group. According to Revsportz, Pant and Axar Patel are likely to be retained.

Rishabh Pant made his IPL debut in 2016 for Delhi Capitals (then Delhi Daredevils) and has been associated with the team since. He has been a big player for Delhi Capitals over the years. Apart from 2023, where he was forced to sit out due to a life-threatening accident, he has played every IPL season so far.

Meanwhile, Axar Patel has evolved into a useful player in the T20 format and is one of the best players in the Delhi Capitals team. Axar has been brilliant with both bat and ball and lends a balance to the team. After the retirement of Ravindra Jadeja from T20Is, Axar is also a permanent fixture in India's T20I set-up.

While Rishabh Pant and Axar Patel seem to be the certainties, Kuldeep Yadav is not certain to be retained. Although the left-arm wrist-spinner has been a top-class performer for the Capitals over the years, a report in Revsportz confirmed that Kuldeep's retention depends on the amount.

Meanwhile, there will be some changes in the management as well. Kiran Grandhi, Corporate Chairman of GMR Group, will be heading Delhi Capitals in IPL 2025 instead of Parth Jindal, managing director of JSW.

Will Yuvraj Singh join the Delhi Capitals?

Some reports also suggested that Delhi Capitals and Yuvraj Singh are involved in discussions for the role of head coach, which has been vacant since Ricky Ponting was removed from the role.

According to Revsportz, Yuvraj Singh and Delhi Capitals are in ongoing talks but there has been no further clarification on the topic. The Capitals will be looking to take a decision soon in order to prepare for the IPL 2025 mega auction.

Ricky Ponting was removed as Delhi Capitals head coach in July 2024 after the franchise suggested that they wanted a coach who could be available at any time of the year within the city.

Ponting served as the coach of Delhi Capitals for seven years. During his tenure, Delhi Capitals had the best year in 2020 when the team reached the final but lost to Mumbai Indians in the summit clash.
