Afghanistan cricketers Naveen-ul-Haq and Rahmanullah Gurbaz shared cryptic Instagram stories, seemingly mocking Pakistani fans. Afghanistan players’ response came after New Zealand’s five-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in Bengaluru on Thursday, November 9.
The Kane Williamson-led team secured a commanding win in their final league stage match, solidifying their place in the knockout stage. New Zealand’s victory virtually dashed Pakistan’s hopes of qualification for the knockout stage of the ongoing marquee event.
Pakistan And Afghanistan Almost Out Of World Cup Semi-Finals
Pakistan needs to defeat England by approximately 287 runs or within 284 balls to secure a spot in the semi-finals, granting them fourth place in the points table. This task poses a monumental challenge for Babar Azam’s team and seems nearly impossible to achieve.
Afghanistan also faces a formidable challenge to secure a spot in the World Cup semi-finals. Afghanistan requires a win over South Africa by a massive 438-run margin. Hashmatullah Shahidi and Co suffered a heartbreaking defeat against Australia in the last game.
Footwork No Footwork But – Naveen-ul-Haq
Ahead of Pakistan’s crucial match, all-rounder Shadab Khan mimicked Glenn Maxwell’s ‘no footwork’ shots during a training session. Following this and New Zealand’s victory, Afghanistan’s Naveen-ul-Haq and Rahmanullah Gurbaz shared cryptic Instagram stories.
Naveen ul Haq took to Instagram and posted a cryptic message. “Footwork No Footwork But. Program Abhy sahi se warh gaya,” Naveen wrote. Gurbaz later reposted the story and wrote, “Wargyaa.”
Rahman Ullah Gurbaz & Naveen Ul Haq both mocking Pak’s Cricket Team through their instagram story is very unprofessional.
Cricket is supposed to bring people & nations together but such acts will create distances specially when these things are coming from international players? pic.twitter.com/Ue0Csl426f— Sabuktageen Khan Afridi (@SabukAfridi) November 9, 2023
In their last game against Australia, Afghanistan had a rare opportunity to make history by reaching the knockout stage for the first time. However, Glenn Maxwell’s incredible batting performance, despite “no footwork,” single-handedly carried the Australians to victory.
Afghanistan will play their final league match against South Africa at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday, November 10. The Babar Azam-led team will face defending champion England in their final league match in Kolkata on Saturday, November 11.
