Young South Africa sensation Dewald Brevis, who is popularly known as ‘Baby AB’, has said that the legendary Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar is one of his childhood heroes.

Dewald Brevis smashed 506 runs in the U19 World Cup 2022 in just 6 games and the 18-year-old now holds the record for scoring the most runs in a single edition of the marquee U19 World Cup. Also, he picked 7 wickets with his spin bowling in the tournament.

Brevis had set INR 20 lakh as his base price for the Indian Premier League 2022 mega auction and he was bought by Mumbai Indians for INR 3 crore.

Speaking to TimesofIndia.com Brevis said that it’s an honour for him to be part of Mumbai Indians. He added that he is looking forward to working with Mumbai Indians’ world-class coaching staff that includes legendary Sachin Tendulkar.

“It is a huge honour to be part of a franchise with an amazing record like Mumbai Indians. Me and my brother idolised so many players in the Mumbai family while we grew up.

“Mumbai Indians is a team that you always feel have a very good chance of winning the IPL and their past record shows just that.

They have also in the past been very good at giving young players a chance and I am privileged that I have this opportunity and look forward to working with their world-class coaching staff. Sachin Tendulkar is one of my childhood heroes,” Brevis told TimesofIndia.com in an exclusive interview.

The South African youngster further said that he is very excited to play under the leadership of 5-time Indian Premier League winning captain Rohit Sharma.

Brevis said that he admires Rohit and sharing the dressing room with him will be a dream come true moment for him.

“I am very excited to play under Rohit Sharma. He is someone that I admire and for a young player like me to be able to share a dressing room with a captain and player like Rohit is a dream come true. I will try and learn as much as I can from him,” Brevis further said.
