Former India Test specialist VVS Laxman has elaborated on the value of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 trophy for Indian fans, players, and management in the latest video on X. VVS Laxman said it was a special triumph for everyone.

VVS Laxman is a former Indian star who is also working as the Head of Director at NCA. He was one of the crucial members of the Indian Team in the late 90s and early 2000s with Rahul Dravid and was known as the Laxman of the Indian Cricket Team. Laxman and Dravid are always considered among the best Test specialists for Indian cricket.

Rahul Dravid was the Head Coach of the Rohit Sharma & Boys that won the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Under Dravid, Team India failed to win the ICC title by close margins during the last four years. However, they eventually won it for their batting legend, just before his resignation as Team India Head Coach.

VVS Laxman appeared in a BCCI video in which he explained why the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 was a stunning triumph for the Indian Team. He made several points about the value of the ICC title; one of which was the players' and support staff's emotions.

“Yeah, it's obviously a special feeling, you know, winning the World Cup, because when you're playing against the best in a trophy, which means a lot to all the players who are participating in that tournament, and then the kind of finish we had after being under pressure by the South African batsmen, 30 runs to get in 30 balls”, he said.

“And from there to show the character, the resilience and the self-belief to pull off a match from the jaws of defeat, you know, I think shows the character of the entire team", he added.

India should have won the ODI World Cup last year: Laxman

Laxman also feels India should have won the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 last year but we failed to win the final hurdle. India won all the games in the ODI World Cup last year but failed to win the final against Australia at home.

“And it's a special feeling, keeping in mind that we have come close, just six months back, you know, we should have won the 50 over World Cup, dominating the entire tournament and then not be able to cross the final hurdle”, the 49-year-old further said.

"Everyone showed their emotions, so it showed how much it meant to each and every player of the squad. And it's not only the playing 11, but even the support staff, the coaching staff, emotions were really high", said Laxman, who played 134 Tests and 86 ODIs for India from 1996 to 2006.

India won their second ICC T20 World Cup title after 2007 when they won the debut edition under then-skipper MS Dhoni. India came close to the title in other editions but was only able to capture it for the second time under Rohit Sharma in the recent ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
