Sir Alastair Cook To Retire From All Forms Of Cricket After 2023 Season: Reports

Former England captain Sir Alastair Cook is set to retire from all forms of cricket after the ongoing 2023 season as per reports. Cook who is England’s top run-getter in Test cricket is set to retire after the ongoing county championship season.

Alastair Cook retired from international cricket in 2018 but continued to play for Essex since his retirement. In the ongoing season, he has scored 808 runs so far in 23 innings at an average of 36.72 with one hundred and three fifties.

Meanwhile, a report in Daily Mail said that Cook is set to retire from all forms of cricket at the end of the current season as he hopes to take Essex to another County Championship title. The report further says that Cook wants to give more time to his family and accomplish his commentary stints with BBC and TNT Sport.

Alastair Cook To Retire After Ongoing County Season: Reports

Essex have one more game remaining in the season after their ongoing fixture against Hampshire and are still in the race for the Championship title. Surrey are currently topping the table followed by Essex. Surrey are 15 points clear to second-placed Essex.

As said earlier, Alastair Cook is England’s leading run-scorer in Test cricket ( 12472) and the fifth-highest among the all-time highest run-scores in the format. He has scored 33 Test tons 31 of them came as an opener. Only Sunil Gavaskar with 33 centuries has more centuries than him as an opener.

He has won Test series against India and Australia, the two countries against whom England have played the most Test cricket. Cook was a part of England’s 2011 ODI World Cup squad as well. Cook has won 24 out of 59 Test matches that he led England in losing 22 in the process.
