Sri Lanka take on Afghanistan in the second of the three-match ODI series on Sunday, November 27. All the matches will be played at the Pallekelle International Stadium in Pallekele. Afghanistan notched up their second-ever win against Sri Lanka in the ODI format in the first ODI. They won by 60 runs and are leading the series 1-0 at the moment.
It was a historic moment in Afghanistan cricket as they defeated the Lankans by 60 runs. Batting first they scored a mammoth 294/8. Ibrahim Zadran scored his second ODI ton and there were also contributions from Rahmanullah Gurbaz (53), Rahmat Shah (52), Najibullah Zadran (42), and a quickfire 22 from Gulbadin Naib.
After the batters set up the game, the bowlers led Fazalhaq Farooqi’s 4-wicket spell bundled out the Lankans for just 234. Gulbadin Naib took three wickets and Rashid Khan took one as Afghanistan put one over Sri Lanka. The second ODI thus becomes a must-win for the Islanders to keep the series alive.
Meanwhile, if Afghanistan manages to beat Sri Lanka in the second ODI, it will be their first ODI series win against a major Test-playing nation. The tour, which was initially scheduled to be played in February 2023, was shifted to the new schedule as the two respective boards mutually agreed on playing the matches early. The Afghan side landed in Sri Lanka on November 22 as per reports.
