SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy expressed his commitment to being a match-winner for his team in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Nitish Kumar stated that he is ready for challenging situations like a team collapse in matches.
Nitish Kumar Reddy was picked by SunRisers Hyderabad for Rs 20 lakhs before the IPL 2023. However, the all-rounder featured in just two matches in last year's tournament. He didn't get a chance to bat and went wicketless at an expensive economy rate of 10.80.
However, the 20-year-old showcased batting prowess in the ongoing tournament. The right-handed batter has scored 239 runs in seven innings at an average of 47.80 and a strike rate of 152.23. The right-arm pacer has taken three wickets at an economy rate of 9.38.
It's Not Going To Work Every Time - Nitish Kumar Reddy
During a conversation with ESPNcricinfo, Nitish Kumar Reddy emphasized the need to be prepared for challenges like early wickets and collapses. Nitish noted his preparedness to step up if the team faces difficult situations.
"We know it's not going to work every time. It's not like we will go hard on opponents all the time, but one bad game, one bad ball, such things happen and we have to be prepared for early wickets. You can see at first we scored huge runs and after that we collapsed. So I've been thinking at the back of my mind for this situation that if the team is going to collapse, I have to be ready for that situation," Reddy said.
Don't Really Feel Satisfied - Nitish Kumar Reddy
Nitish Kumar Reddy stated that he doesn't feel satisfied with his contribution when the team scores 270. However, Reddy expressed satisfaction in rescuing the team from challenging situations.
"I just love playing these kinds of innings. I don't really feel satisfied when the team scores 270 and I score 50 or 40 runs of those. But when the team really needs me, like when we are 4 for 10 or something like that, and I can go there and take the team till the end or the last over... I want to showcase that because that's what my role is," Reddy added.
The Andhra Pradesh cricketer scored a match-saving half-century against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in his second innings. The SRH team collapsed to 39/3, including Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head's dismissals. Reddy scored 14 runs off his first 17 balls to rebuild for his team.
Nitish Kumar Reddy formed a 50-run partnership with Abdul Samad for the sixth wicket in just 3.2 overs when SRH were struggling at 100/5 after 13.1 overs. Samad added 25 runs from only 12 deliveries. Reddy scored 64 runs off 37 balls as SRH set a target of 183 runs for Punjab.
Nitish Kumar Reddy will be next seen in action when the Pat Cummins-led team takes on the Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Thursday, May 16. The home team aims to win the upcoming match to boost their chances of reaching the playoffs.
