Sri Lanka have copped a fine of 20 per cent of their match fees for keeping a slow over-rate in the second ODI against India in Colombo. Sri Lanka lost the second ODI by three wickets and fell behind in fulfilling the required number of overs in time. As a result, the hosts will also lose a point from their tally in the World Cup Super League.

Ranjan Madugalle of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees slapped the sanction on Dasun Shanaka’s men as they fell an over short after considering the time allowances. According to Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Support Personnel for over rate minimum offences, all the players in the team are fined 20 per cent of their match fees.

Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka pleaded guilty to the offence and accepted the proposed sanction; hence, there was no need for a formal hearing. On-field umpires Kumar Dharmasena and Lyndon Hannibal, third umpire Ruchira Palliyaguruge and fourth umpire Prageeth Rambukwella levelled the charge.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka would be keen to turn things around in the third ODI and will want to pick up a consolation win. Their batting line-up has exceeded the expectations, posting 262 and 275 in the first two games. However, it is their bowling and fielding unit that needs to step up and deliver for the team. A win would do their confidence a world of good ahead of the three-match T20I series.
