Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) have announced that Zimbabwe will be touring the Island Nation In January for three ODIs. The ODIs will all be played at the Pallekele International Stadium, Kandy under a bio bubble.
“The Zimbabwe National Team will tour Sri Lanka during January 2022 to take part in a 03 Match ODI Series,” Sri Lanka Cricket said in a statement.
The first ODI will be played on January 16, while the second and third will be played on January 18 and January 21 respectively. The two sides last met in a tri-series consisting of Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe.
Zimbabwe had won the series against Sri Lanka on the last occasion
Zimbabwe had won the series 3-2 in a thrilling fashion, the last time they visited Sri Lanka so they will be confident once again about their chances. They have also won the T20I series against Scotland 2-1 recently but have been poor in the ODIs that they have played. They will be hoping to turn it around soon in the ODI format as well.
Sri Lanka on the other hand, have just beaten the West Indies at home and will be high on confidence. Overall, this promises to be an absolute cracker of a series. Sri Lanka will be having consultant Mahela Jayawardene on board for a full-time basis for the very first time. Jayawardene has tasted success with the Mumbai Indians in the IPL, winning three IPL titles so far and will be looking to bring Sri Lanka back to the glory days.
