Former Sri Lanka batsman Mahela Jayawardene has noted that Pakistan bowlers were very predictable in their approach in the game against Australia in the Semi-Final. Australia managed to pull off a stunner against the Pakistan side from nowhere and have reached the finals on style with the efforts of Marcus Stoinis and Matthew Wade.

Australia chasing a big total of 177, lost five wickets for just 96 runs and were in all sorts of trouble. Matthew Wade and Marcus Stoinis stitched an 81 run partnership in no time and won the game with one over to go. It will be Australia and New Zealand to fight it out in the final of the T20 World cup 2021.

Mahela Jayawardene Highlights Pakistan Bowler’s Mistakes

Mahela Jayawardene mentioned that Pakistan bowlers should have varied their length and lines against the Australian duo and found them very conventional. He added that Stoinis and Wade duo were exceptional in their shot-making, which in turn applied a lot of pressure on Pakistan’s bowlers.

The only criticism of the Pakistan bowlers would be that they did not bowl those wide lines, going away from those arcs. It was very conventional. It was either the yorker, slower ball or back of a length. The two Australian batsmen (Wade and Stoinis) did premeditate. They picked up a few balls, executed (their shots) and put a lot of pressure on those bowlers,” Mahela Jayawardene told in interaction with ESPN Cricinfo.

Mahela Jayawardene Heaps Praise On Australian Finishers

Mahela Jayawardene lauded the two Australian batters, Matthew Wade and Marcus Stonis, for showing a lot of maturity and explained the way they handled the tough situation. Australia’s option to go with an extra better in the lineup paid off, and David Warner’s form has also been very helpful as well.

The two batters showed amazing maturity. They thrived on the situation and the Pakistani bowlers, under pressure, did not execute their plans,” he added.
