Amidst all the strike rate drama, one of the world's finest batters, Virat Kohli, earned his well-deserved place in India’s squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

The Ajit Agarkar-led Indian selection committee unveiled Team India's final roster for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 on Tuesday, April 30. However, shortly after the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) announcement, fans have been expressing their emotions about Kohli’s selection. While many hailed BCCI's decision, some criticized Kohli's selection.

Notably, Rohit Sharma, who was already confirmed as the Indian National Cricket Team captain for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, will have Hardik Pandya as his deputy for the mega ICC event, which will be co-hosted by former champions the West Indies and the United States from June 1.

It will start shortly after the conclusion of the ongoing IPL 2024, which played a key role in the selection of many players, including Kohli, but the scenario was not the same for some players, like the in-form Lucknow Super Giants' captain KL Rahul, who failed to make it to the 15-member T20 World Cup squad.

Well, the former Indian skipper has already been backed by many former Indian cricketers for the upcoming showpiece event, despite some being critical of his strike rate in the ongoing IPL 2024. However, the dashing right-hander showcased his T20 batting prowess by becoming the first player to amass 500 runs in the IPL this season.

Kohli is currently holding the Orange Cap for being the leading run-scorer with 500 runs at an average of 71.42 and a strike rate over 147 in 10 matches so far in the ongoing IPL 2024. Kohli is the giant chaser, and being in red-hit form both against pace and spin, he will play a key role in the Men in Blue’s campaign in the multi-nation tournament.

Apart from his current IPL form, Kohli's performance in the T20 World Cup is really stunning, as he is the all-time leading run-scorer with 1,141 runs at an average of 81.50 and a strike rate of 131.30. The Indian batting superstar has so far hit 13 fifties in 27 matches and 25 innings and won 'Player of the Tournament' in the 2014 and 2016 editions of the T20 World Cup.

Now, it will be interesting to see if Kohli will open with Indian skipper Rohit Sharma or come in at his usual batting position for Team India at No. 3 in the upcoming showpiece event. Actually, many expressed their desire to see Kohli open the innings with Rohit, as he is on fire as an opener for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the ongoing IPL 2024.
