Former chief selector Krishnamachari Srikkanth has revealed his 15-member India squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. Krishnamachari Srikkanth has excluded Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Mohammed Siraj from the squad for the ICC tournament.

The tournament will be played in the West Indies and the United States of America from June 1 to June 29. The Men in Blue will enter as one of the favorites to secure the title. It's worth mentioning that India hasn't secured the trophy since their victory in the inaugural edition in 2007.

The Indian team reached the final in 2014 but suffered a heartbreaking loss to Sri Lanka. The team lost to the West Indies in the semifinals during the 2016 season. The team faced a group-stage exit in the 2021 season and a semifinal exit in the last edition of the World Cup in Australia.

Yashasvi Jaiswal Was A Strong Contender - Krishnamachari Srikkanth

Kris Srikkanth suggested that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma should open the batting for the Indian team. Srikkanth said Yashasvi Jaiswal is a strong contender, but the selectors had to make hard calls for team balance.

“Yashasvi Jaiswal was a strong contender in my team, but as of now, it’s going to be Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma who will open the innings for me in the T20 World Cup. Because I will have to look at the balance, who’s going to come at No.3, who’s going to bat at No.4, what is the impact you want to create, you need to take all those things into account."

“Sometimes, you have to take hard calls as the chairman of the selection committee. It will be difficult as Yashasvi is a very good player, his track record is good, but for me, it will be Rohit and Kohli opening,” Srikkanth told Star Sports.

Virat Kohli is currently opening for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the ongoing IPL 2024. He holds the Orange Cap, amassing 434 runs at an average of 61.43 and a strike rate of 145.76. Kohli also holds the record for the most runs in the T20 World Cups, scoring 1,141 runs.

Krishnamachari Srikkanth Picks Kuldeep Yadav As Specialist Spinner

The former cricketer and commentator selected Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube, Hardik Pandya, and Rinku Singh for India's squad in the upcoming event. He picked KL Rahul as the wicketkeeper-batter, with either Rishabh Pant or Sanju Samson as a backup wicketkeeper in the squad.

Srikkanth selected Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel as spin-bowling all-rounders. The Tamil Nadu cricketer named Kuldeep Yadav as a specialist spinner. He backed Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, and Avesh Khan as pace bowlers alongside T Natarajan in the squad.
