The white-ball captain of England, Jos Buttler, has expressed “frustrations” that schedule conflicts prior to this month’s tour of Bangladesh have interfered with his team’s ability to prepare for the defense of their 50-over World Cup championship.

Since winning the 2019 World Cup, England has chosen 37 players for 33 One-Day Internationals, which is five more than they did for roughly three times as many games (98) during the previous World Cup cycle.

Jos Buttler maintains that there won’t be any repercussions for the players who opted out of the tour, including Alex Hales, Sam Billings, and David Willey, because the opportunities currently available on the franchise circuit are too good for those players who aren’t centrally contracted to the ECB to pass up.

“It’s quite a unique situation, It’s the time we are in. The way the games are scheduled, I can sort of understand it both ways. As an England captain, on one side you wish that everyone would see playing for England as the main thing and grab any opportunity available” Buttler said in the wake of England’s 2-1 series loss to South Africa in Kimberley.

“However, there are larger issues at play. The disparity between what people can make playing for England and not playing for England is fairly considerable, thus it is an issue that must be considered. That will be a different option for each person at different points in their careers” Jos Buttler Added.

“Jofra Archer Wants to play”: Jos Buttler

Jofra Archer, who completed his return to the England team after a nearly two-year sabbatical with career-best figures of 6 for 40 in the third ODI, is one individual who has made himself available for the Bangladesh tour.

A first appearance for the England Lions in Abu Dhabi last year was followed by a run of five appearances for MI Cape Town in the SA20, before his two ODI performances in Bloemfontein and Kimberley. Archer’s comeback to action has been a long process.

“He wants to play, It doesn’t seem fair to hold him back now that he’s recovered and fit, and there’s cricket available. He certainly needs to increase his overs and resilience to be able to bowl 10 overs per game, and for English cricket in the future, you want to see him playing Test cricket, where he will be able to bowl spell after spell” Jos Buttler Added.

Archer is expected to return to action for Cape Town this week and will play for the Mumbai Indians in the IPL beginning in April.
