Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) Director Mo Bobat has opened up about the tragic stampede during the team’s victory celebrations at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. Bobat stated that the fans will always remain part of the team’s history, and the team is committed to recognizing them and their families.

The tragic stampede occurred outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on July 4, a day after RCB won the IPL 2025. The incident claimed 11 lives amid large crowds outside the venue. In response, the Bengaluru-based franchise announced financial support of ₹10 lakh for each family affected by the tragedy.

"These fans waited 18 years, so we wanted to do it for them, and for some of them to have lost their lives just feels incredibly sad. We look forward to being able to recognise those people and their families. Their stories become a part of our history now," Mo Bobat told Cricbuzz.

RCB End 18-Year Wait to Win Maiden IPL Title

Royal Challengers Bengaluru ended an 18-year wait by winning their first-ever IPL title in 2025. They defeated Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the final at Ahmedabad, overcoming the heartbreak of three previous losses in 2009, 2011, and 2016.

RCB posted 190/9, with Virat Kohli top-scoring with 43 runs, while other batters contributed crucial runs. Punjab Kings fought hard but fell short, finishing at 184/7, with Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Krunal Pandya taking two wickets each.

The victory was emotional for the RCB camp and fans who had waited nearly two decades. A victory parade in Ahmedabad was denied due to short notice. In a social media post, Virat Kohli assured that celebrations would take place in Bengaluru once the team returned home.

The Fact Is, RCB Were Going to Win the IPL at Some Stage - Mo Bobat

Mo Bobat emphasized presenting the milestone to players not as a burden, but as an opportunity. He added that winning the IPL was inevitable and questioned why it couldn’t happen with RCB now.

"The fact is, RCB were going to win the IPL at some stage. That's a fact. In another 100 years, they'll win it once, right? So, why not us?" Bobat said.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru enjoyed a dominant IPL 2025 season. After making the playoffs multiple times since 2020 but failing to reach the final, the team finally broke through.

In the league stage, RCB secured nine wins from 14 matches, finishing second on the points table with 19 points. Notably, they became the first team in IPL history to win all seven of their away fixtures in a single season.

They faced the Punjab Kings in Qualifier 1 and comfortably sealed victory by eight wickets. The Rajat Patidar-led team earned a direct ticket to the final, where they completed their campaign.
