Indian skipper Virat Kohli was visibly frustrated after being dismissed early on in his innings during the second Test at Lord’s. He was sent packing after looking rather fluent, and Kohli was seen venting his frustration back in the pavilion.

Kohli walked out to the crease with India in a spot of bother. They had just lost Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul to Mark Wood, and England was right on top early in the morning. Wood was breathing fire, running in at full pace and pounding the balls in at around the 145kmph mark.

Having had a poor tour so far, Kohli played with intent and looked to score runs at will. He unleashed a couple of classy cover drives, which was a safe shot to play as the ball wasn’t doing much. However, the same shot proved to be his undoing.

Sam Curran was brought into bowl and the youngster’s natural angle takes the ball away from the batsman. Knowing this, Kohli shouldn’t have attempted a glory shot. Alas, the 32-year-old couldn’t keep his instincts in check and went chasing after an away-going delivery.

The edge was induced and Kohli’s wicket left India in troubled waters. At lunch, they were 55/3, just 28 runs ahead of England. He was seen shaking his head as he walked back and vented out his frustration in the dressing room.

Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane found some form after Virat Kohli’s dismissal

Two under fire middle-order batsmen, Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane, were at the crease when Kohli left. It was time for the veterans to step up and justify their selection in the side. Both have performed very poorly in the tour, barely spending any time at the crease.

The opportunity was there, and the two dug in to defy the English bowlers. They hung around till Tea and completed a 100-run stand in the third session. As soon as the century partnership was brought up, Pujara received a spitting cobra of a delivery which he couldn’t deal with.

Rahane soon followed him back to the pavilion, but not before bringing a well-measured half-century. Moeen Ali, the one who sent back Rahane, also accounted for Ravindra Jadeja with a peach soon after, leaving Rishabh Pant in the company of the long tail.

Bad light soon put an end to the day’s play, with India on 181/6, leading England by just 154 runs. Going into Day 5, Pant will have to farm the strike and add some useful runs to total in order to avoid a defeat at Lord’s.
