Indian superstar Virat Kohli’s former Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) teammate Mahipal Lomror has got a big opportunity in English county cricket. The 26-year-old has signed a big deal with Surrey County Cricket Club for the remainder of the County Championship 2026.

Lomror was part of Royal Challengers Bengaluru from 2022 to 2024. RCB bought the left-handed batter for ₹95 lakh ahead of the 2022 season. He mainly played as a lower-order hitter. The left-arm spinner spent three seasons with RCB before being released ahead of the 2025 mega auction. Amid this, Michael Vaughan, Phil Tufnell react to Bangladesh’s Test win over Australia.

Mahipal Lomror joins Surrey for County Championship 2026

Mahipal Lomror has signed a six-match deal with the iconic club Surrey for the remainder of the County Championship 2026. He will join Surrey before their match against Nottinghamshire.

Surrey needed a batter because Will Jacks is out with an ankle problem, while Dan Lawrence has joined England’s Test team for the upcoming three-match Test series against Pakistan. Lomror was a good fit for Surrey because he also offers a useful left-arm spin option.

Lomror is now looking forward to playing county cricket in England. He will get the chance to play in different conditions and learn from experienced Brown Caps players.

Mahipal Lomror said in a statement: “I'm happy to join Surrey for the remainder of the season. Playing in the County Championship is a huge opportunity for me to challenge myself in a new environment and learn from an experienced group.”

Surrey welcome Mahipal Lomror with big praise

Meanwhile, Alec Stewart, the club's Director of Cricket for men’s cricket, has welcomed Mahipal Lomror’s signing as a good addition to the team because they have lost Dan Lawrence and Will Jacks. Amid this, Sri Lanka's bowling coach breaks silence on Dhruv Jurel's controversial catch in 1st Test.

He pointed out that Lomror can bat and bowl left-arm spin, and the Brown Caps believe that his all-round skills will help them in the remaining matches of the County Championship 2026.

Alec Stewart said in the official statement, “With the busy schedule of international, franchise, and domestic cricket around the world, I'm pleased to add Mahipal Lomror to our available squad of players."

"With the loss of Lawrence and Jack's ability to bowl spin, it was important to add a batter who can bowl some overs of spin when required for the final stage of the season. We look forward to welcoming him to the dressing room ahead of this week's match with Nottinghamshire.”

The Brown Caps are sitting seventh in the County Championship 2026 points table with 91 points from eight matches that they have played so far. They will now face Yorkshire, Glamorgan, Essex, Sussex, and Somerset in their remaining games in the competition.
