Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag had named his list of players he would be retaining from Mumbai Indians ahead of mega auction 2021, and he surprisingly left out Hardik Pandya. Virender Sehwag was one of the most aggressive openers, the world has seen, and he is always known for making some interesting choices as well.

The latest choice he had to make was to select three players from the Mumbai Indians who he will be retaining ahead of mega auction 2021. The rules for the retention policy ahead of mega auction haven’t been announced yet with two new teams coming in, and there could be a possibility for 3 players to be retained for every franchise.

Virender Sehwag Bats For Ishan Kishan Ahead Of Hardik Pandya

Virender Sehwag’s first two choices were very much obvious of Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah, while he opted for Ishan Kishan instead of Hardik Pandya as the third choice. He reckoned Ishan Kishan does look to be the player for the future while other franchises would think twice before going for Hardik Pandya as he doesn’t bowl.

“I think I would retain Ishan Kishan, Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah. Ishan seems to be in it for the long haul. Age is on his side so that he can serve you better. If Hardik Pandya doesn’t bowl, I don’t think he would be able to fetch big money at the auction because due to his injury concerns, everyone would think twice,” Virender Sehwag told.

Virender Sehwag Hails Ishan Kishan

Virender Sehwag mentioned that Hardik Pandya’s fitness will determine his auction price while he added a lot of praise for the promising youngster Ishan Kishan. However, he also made an important point about Hardik being a lower-order batter makes it tough to retain.

“Will he bowl or not? If he can declare himself fit and start bowling, then teams can buy him at the auction. The kind of performance Ishan Kishan has dished out today, expect many more from him in time to come because is a top-order batsman, unlike Hardik Pandya, who bats lower,” Sehwag added.

Ishan Kishan scored a blistering knock of 84 runs in just 32 balls in his previous game against Sunrisers Hyderabad and showed his immense talent with the bat.
