Abhishek Sharma, the left-handed batter took, center stage for India in the second T20I against Zimbabwe in Harre on Sunday. He scored his maiden T20I century for India,in just his second T20I.

His innings was decorated by 8 sixes and seven fours and he hit three consecutive sixes to get to his landmark. He is just the third Indian batter to get his T20I career started with a six after Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma.

His sixes came off against Zimbabwe left-arm spinner Wellington Masakadza. He hit back-to-back sixes off the third, fourth, and fifth balls and perished in the sixth ball of the over for exactly a hundred off 47 balls.

India lost the first T20I against Zimbabwe in Harare on Sunday very shockingly by 13 runs. Hence they started the second T20I on a very positive note. Shubman Gill once again was out for just two in the second T20I but the carnage was continued by Abhishek Sharma and Ruturaj Gaikwad.

The two added a stand of 127 till Sharma was out in the 14th over of the Indian innings. The southpaw exhibited belligerent batting in the second T20I after he scored a duck on his T20I debut against Zimbabwe on Sunday. Saturday's loss was somewhat forgotten by the Indian fans after his batting display on Sunday.

The BCCI sent a young Indian side under Shubman Gill's captaincy to Zimbabwe. Things did not go as planned. However, in the second T20I, Abhishek Sharma led with the bat by example. He scored 484 runs in IPL 2024 and backed it up with a brilliant century in just his second T20I. The Indian batters cashed in on some poor bowling from the Zimbabwe bowlers who were erratic.

Sharma celebrated the moment of him getting to his maiden T20I ton with his hands and arms spread and with a big smile on his face. There was a sense of relief visible on his face after he bagged a duck on his T20I debut. Former Zimbabwe skipper Andy Flower on air described his innings as a terrific knock and how the southpaw has the T20I DNA embedded in his mindset.

After Abhishek's dismissal, Rinku Singh (47) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (77) added an unbeaten 87 run-stand to take India to 234/2 after the end of their 20 overs which is now India's highest T20I score against Zimbabwe. The two batters scored 21 off the final over with, the Southpaw smashing a four and two sixes in the final three balls he faced and remained unbeaten on 48 off just 22 balls.

India scored 234/2 in 20 overs on the same pitch in the second ODI where they failed to chase 116 on Saturday. There was a starc contrast in how the pitch played out differently in the two games. Zimbabwe now needs a mammoth 235 runs to win the second T20I and go 2-0 up in the series.
