Oman's Ayan Khan's fielding blunder while trying to complete the catch of Marcus Stoinis proved costly as the All-rounder smashed Omani bowlers afterwards.
Australia were taking on Oman in their opening Group B match at the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA and West Indies. The Kensington Oval ground in Barbados hosted the game in which the Aussies were favored to win over the Minnows.
Marcus Stoinis played out one of the best knocks in this T20 World Cup and his contribution proved to be decisive for the 2021 Champions.
The Aussies, led by Mitchell Marsh, are on course to win their 3rd ICC title in less than a year. Given their history, the Baggy Greens will be eager to complete their treble of trophies in this tournament after winning two major competitions last year. Pat Cummins had guided Australia to win the World Test Championship as well as the 50-over World Cup.
Now it remains to be seen if the 6-time Cricket World Cup champions can become 2-time World T20 champions.
Marcus Stoinis whacks 4 sixes in a row after Ayan Khan's dropped attempt
Powerful All-rounder Marcus Stoinis had just walked into the crease after the dismissal of Big Show Glenn Maxwell for yet another golden duck. Australia had already scored their first 50 runs within the 9th over and Stoinis was there with Tim David and the duo had to ensure that they put something significant on the board.

By the 14th over of the match, the Aussies had already scored 90+ runs, and the 15th over started in the most dramatic of fashions. Omani All-rounder Mehran Khan was to bowl the over and in front of him was Marcus Stoinis. After taking a double off the first ball, Stoinis struck the 2nd ball towards the cover region with batter Ayan Khan standing underneath the ball.
Marcus Stoinis' mistimed shot spent considerable time in the air with Ayan Khan having all the time in the world to make sure he's got a good grip. Ayan was standing a few yards ahead of the boundary rope as he was tracking back to complete the catch.
However, after successfully landing the ball on his palms, Ayan Khan fell to the ground on his back and was dragged onto the boundary cushions. He slid through with his back without releasing the ball from his hand and Marcus Stoinis got his first six of the over out of nowhere.
The dropped chance was a major sigh of relief for Marcus Stoinis, who went on to smash 3 more sixes in a row and put Oman in a very bad position. The Australian eventually remained not out at 67 off just 36, helping his side post 165 as the target.

In response to Australia's total of 164, Oman managed to post just 125 runs on the board with Australia grabbing 2 points with a 39-run win. Marcus Stoinis, for his efforts of 67 and bowling figures of 3/19 off 3 overs, became man of the match in the 2nd Group B game.
