Ravichandran Ashwin starred with the bat as India recovered from a disastrous start to post a big total in the first innings of the ongoing Test against Bangladesh at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
Asked to bat first, India lost three wickets in the very first session as the likes of Rohit Sharma (6), Shubman Gill (0) and Virat Kohli (6) departed cheaply.
Later in the day, India found themselves reeling at 144/6. India were staring down the barrel when Ravichandran Ashwin walked out to bat. However, the veteran spinner and Ravindra Jadeja came up with valiant knocks to bail India out of trouble.
Ravichandran Ashwin went on to complete a fine century on the first day itself while Jadeja remained unbeaten on 86 as India ended the day on 339 for 6. They shared a 199-run stand for the seventh wicket. India were eventually bowled out for 376 runs. Ashwin scored 113 runs off 133 balls with the help of 11 fours and two sixes. On the other hand, Jadeja scored 86 runs.
After impressing one and all with his batting in the first innings of the Test, Ashwin left the fans impressed once again on Friday (September 20). Soon after the second day's play ended, Ashwin decided to dry his clothes by spreading them on the ground.
The star spinner came out of the dressing room with his wet clothes even before the fans left the stands. The fans were amused by Ashwin's act and were seen cheering him on. One of those fans even urged Ashwin to open the innings.
