Ravichandran Ashwin, captain of the Dindigul Dragons, took a spectacular diving catch during the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2024 Qualifier 2 match against IDream Tiruppur. Ravichandran Ashwin's remarkable fielding effort received appreciation from fans, and the video has gone viral on social media.

Ravichandran Ashwin led the Dindigul Dragons to the final match of the Tamil Nadu Premier League 2024. The Dragons defeated Tiruppur Tamizhans by 9 wickets in Qualifier 2 at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday, August 2. The Dragons will face the Lyca Kovai Kings in the final on August 4.

The incident took place in the sixth over of IDream Tiruppur's innings. Amit Sathvik attempted to play a shot down the ground off a full-length ball from Sandeep Warrier. Ravichandran Ashwin, who was at mid-on, dived to his left to secure the catch. The commentators left in awe after Ashwin's remarkable catch.

Tamil Nadu Premier League’s official handle took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to share the video, captioning it with: "A flying dragon in the field."

Ravichandran Ashwin has taken 9 wickets in 9 matches at an average of 26.11 and an economy rate of 7.38. The 37-year-old has also contributed with the bat in the ongoing T20 tournament. The right-handed batter has scored 200 runs at an average of 33.33 and a strike rate of 166.66, including two half-centuries.

The veteran cricketer scored 57 runs off 35 balls in the Eliminator against the Chepauk Super Gillies. It is worth mentioning that Ashwin is the first Indian player to score 200 or more runs in a TNPL season. The off-spinner could be vital for the Dindigul Dragons in the upcoming TNPL 2024 final match.

Ravichandran Ashwin Smashes Half Century In Qualifier 2

Dindigul Dragons opted to bowl first after winning the toss in Qualifier 2 of the TNPL 2024. The Tiruppur Tamizhans lost half of their batters for just 38 runs. S Ganesh (17) and Maan Bafna (26) added 42 runs for the sixth wicket. Only one batter crossed the 20-run mark in the Tiruppur Tamizhans' innings.

For the Dindigul Dragons, P Vignesh took three wickets for just eight runs in his four overs. Subodh Bhati and Varun Chakravarthy each took two wickets. Sandeep Warrier and Ravichandran Ashwin contributed one wicket each. The IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans were dismissed for 108 runs in 19.4 overs.

Ravichandran Ashwin and Vimal Khumar (28 off 27) added an 81-run opening stand during the run chase. Ashwin scored 69 runs off 30 balls with the help of 11 fours and three sixes. The Dragons chased down the target by nine wickets in 10.5 overs. P Vignesh was named Player of the Match for his bowling.
