Rohit Sharma's poor form continues
The poor form of the Indian skipper continued in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in the match against the Steve Smith-led side. He started off well and batted with great aggression.
Surprisingly, Rohit was given two lifelines in the match by the Aussie fielders. First, Cooper Connolly dropped an easy catch to give a reprieve to Rohit, and then Marnus Labuschagne almost grabbed a blinder before the ball slipped out of his hands. Rohit failed to make the most of the lifelines he got and was back in the hut after scoring 28 runs off 29 balls, with 3 fours.
On the 5th ball of the 8th over, Cooper Connolly bowled a full delivery to Rohit on stumps and the Indian skipper went for a slop sweep but missed it completely. The ball hit him on the pads and he used a DRS.
On the UltraEdge, it was confirmed that the ball would have hit the stumps, and Rohit walked back in disappointment. After Rohit's dismissal, his admirer Travis Head pulled off an animated celebration while his wife, who was in the stands, was left heartbroken.

What happened in the first-ever ICC Champions Trophy match between India and Australia?
India and Australia first clashed in the inaugural edition of the ICC Champions Trophy, then called the Wills International Cup. The high-voltage clash between India and Australia in the third quarter-final was held on October 28, 1998, in Dhaka.
Batting first, India posted a great total of 307/8 on the board, largely thanks to Sachin Tendulkar’s sensational 141 runs off 128 balls, studded with 13 fours and 3 sixes.
Also, Rahul Dravid with his steady 48 runs off 80 balls, and Ajay Jadeja w,ith his explosive 71 runs off 65 balls, provided crucial support, helping Team India set Australia a huge target.
Chasing 308, Australia got off to a promising start, with the top 3 - Mark Waugh (74), Adam Gilchrist (25), and Ricky Ponting (41) - playing very well.
However, Javagal Srinath and Sunil Joshi removed the top-order batters before Tendulkar turned the game around with the ball, picking up 4/38 in 9.1 overs, dismantling the middle order. The Aussies were eventually bowled out for 263 runs in 48.1 overs, handing India a good 44-run victory.
