Veteran Indian spinners Ravichandran Ashwin got extremely emotional after the Rohit Sharma-led side clinched the T20 World Cup 2024. He said that it was a full circle moment for the team and it is unbelievable what happened.

India National Cricket Team were crowned as the winners of the T20 World Cup 2024 as they defeated South Africa in the final by 7 runs at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados. This marked an end to an 11-year title drought as India last won the ICC title in 2013, winning the Champions Trophy.

The Rohit Sharma-led side was sensational throughout the tournament as they became the first time in history to win the T20 WC title undefeated. They won the final against South Africa from the jaws of defeat and the entire team broke into tears as the scoreboard read "India won by 7 runs".

India posted a total of 176 runs on the board. Virat Kohli was the top run-scorer for his team with his innings of 76 runs. Axar Patel (47) and Shivam Dube (27) played vital hands as they ended up with a winning total. But South Africa came up with a sensational effort with the bat.

Quinton de Kock (39) and Tristan Stubbs (31) first put India under pressure but it was Heinrich Klaasen (51), who gave a real scare to the Indian team. He slammed a vital half-century and took the game away from India. But Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, and Arshdeep Singh combined to snatch the victory from the jaws of defeat.

Ravichandran Ashwin stressed that he has won the World Cup in 2011 and the Champions Trophy in 2013 but the T20 World Cup 2024 win means too much. He highlighted how players got emotional after the win and also looked in tears. He stated:

"Unbelievable. I have watched cricket through the years, I have played it, I have won trophies such as the World Cup in 2011 and the Champions Trophy in 2013. But, the way that the players emoted upon winning, what it meant to them all, with Dravid bowing out in 2007 to Rohit and Virat coming so close to winning multiple titles, it was truly a full circle moment without any doubt."

I cried for each of them after their victory - Robin Uthappa

Robin Uthappa, who was also part of the discussion, was in tears and claimed that he cried for every player on the team after the win. He pointed out a fairytale ending for Rahul Dravid, saying that he was celebrating like a 5-year-old kid. He elaborated:

"Had you talked to me 20 minutes earlier, I would have been in tears. I was so full of emotion, thinking about each individual player and what they had been through. To have put up with the criticism, the trolling, to go through the struggles and hardships and hate, is not easy. For people to keep continually doubting your ability, you begin to doubt yourself at some point and you begin to ask yourself, “Is it possible?” I could feel every person’s emotion so strongly.

"I cried for each of them after their victory. I thanked God, and I now thank every cricketer who’s played for India. This win was so long in the making. Look at Rahul Dravid’s career, as a coach and as a player. Think about how many years he’s played. And in his last game as the coach and possibly his last day of ever being associated with the BCCI, that is the day he finally gets his first trophy. We saw that 50-year-old man celebrate like a 5-year-old kid. This is the beauty of sport. They all deserved to be world champions."
