Mumbai Indians (MI) batter Rohit Sharma joined a rare list of batters against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) during the IPL 2025 clash. The 37-year-old became the third opener, after Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) opener Virat Kohli and Rajasthan Royals' (RR) Yashasvi Jaiswal, to smash sixes on the first two balls.
LSG skipper Rishabh Pant won the toss and elected to field first at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday, April 28. LSG brought in Mayank Yadav for Shardul Thakur. For Mumbai, Karn Sharma returned to the side and Corbin Bosch made his debut, as Mitchell Santner missed out due to a finger injury.

Mayank Yadav was handed the new ball by Rishabh Pant, and his opening over went without much drama. However, the second over brought plenty of action as Rohit Sharma took an aggressive approach.
Rohit smashed back-to-back sixes off short deliveries from Mayank. However, the young pacer responded brilliantly and changed his pace to deceive the veteran batter.
After two dot balls, Mayank delivered a well-disguised slower ball outside off. Rohit attempted a cut shot, but it took a thick outside edge due to the lack of pace, and Prince Yadav took a sharp catch. It was a strong comeback from Mayank after conceding two early sixes.
Rohit Sharma Achieves This First in His IPL Career
Rohit Sharma was dismissed after scoring just 12 runs off 5 balls. He managed to etch his name in history in the IPL. For the first time in his IPL career, Rohit began his innings by hitting sixes off his first two deliveries.
The right-handed batter became the second player after Harbhajan Singh to achieve this rare milestone. Harbhajan had done it against the Rajasthan Royals in Mumbai back in 2012.

Rohit became only the third opener in IPL history to start his innings by smashing sixes off his first two balls. Virat Kohli achieved the feat against the Rajasthan Royals in Bengaluru during the 2019 season. Yashasvi Jaiswal did it against the Kolkata Knight Riders in 2023 at Eden Gardens.

Ryan Rickelton continued with aggression and reached his second half-century of the season. Mumbai Indians, with a four-match winning streak, have become one of the most dangerous sides in the tournament. Meanwhile, Lucknow Super Giants are in need of a win in this clash to stay in the playoff race for IPL 2025.
