He recently missed the one-off Test against Afghanistan with a stiff back before returning to action in the ongoing ODI series. Tamim played in the first ODI on Wednesday (July 5) in which Bangladesh suffered a defeat. And just a day after leading the team, he has announced his retirement from all forms of the game with immediate effect.

Tamim Iqbal gets emotional:

While announcing the decision during a press conference, Tamim Iqbal became emotional and broke down in tears. Although he did not reveal the reason behind his abrupt decision, he insisted that it was not a sudden decision from him.

“This is the end for me. I have given my best. I have tried my best. I am retiring from international cricket from this moment,” Tamim said.

“Yesterday against Afghanistan was my last international game. It was not a sudden decision. I was thinking about the different reasons. I don’t want to mention here. I have spoken to my family members about it. I thought this is the right time for me to retire from international cricket,” he added.

Here is a clip of the moment:

Tamim Iqbal retires from international cricket after representing Bangladesh in 241 ODIs. He scored 8313 runs in the 50-over format which is the most by any Bangladesh player. Among active cricketers, only Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are ahead of him in terms of ODI runs.

In Tests, he represented Bangladesh in 70 matches, scoring a total of 5134 runs. The batting star also played in 87 T20Is before retiring in July last year. Tamim made his debut in international cricket in 2007 and was an integral part of the team since then.
