Virat Kohli, on Sunday (October 22), once again showed why he is regarded as one of the best ODI batsmen of all time. The India batting superstar continued his red-hot form in the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 and played yet another match-winning knock for the hosts.
The right-handed batsman scored 95 runs as India chased down 274 against New Zealand to register their fifth win on the trot. Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma gave India a good start by adding 71 runs for the first wicket before Lockie Ferguson sent them back in quick succession to leave the hosts 2 down for 76.
The likes of Shreyas Iyer (33) and KL Rahul (29) got starts but failed to capitalise while Suryakumar Yadav was out for only 2. At one stage, India were reeling at 191 for 5. Virat Kohli, however, remained firm at one end and shared a decisive stand of 78 runs with Ravindra Jadeja to all but seal the game for India. He was looking set for yet another century but fell short by just 5 runs.
Heartwarming moment between Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma:
As soon as Ravindra Jadeja hit the winning four, a heartwarming moment between captain Rohit Sharma and his predecessor Virat Kohli left the fans delighted. Not very long ago, there were reports of a rift between the two. The reports suggested that not all was well between the two stars.
