Virat Kohli is back top the cricket field after his retirement from T20I cricket. He played a match-winning knock of 76 in the T20 World Cup 2024 final and pulled the curtains down on his T20I career.

After the conclusion of India's T20I series against Sri Lanka, he is now back to play the three-match ODI series. Both he and Rohit Sharma wanted to skip the ODI series but are playing now after Gautam Gambhir's request. The duo spoke to Gambhir and changed their minds and are now available to play the series.

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were both seen at the practice sessions hitting the ball long and hard. A few of Kohli's shots especially impressed Gautam Gambhir who was seeing him train from very close quarters.

Meanwhile, a video of how Virat Kohli greeted Robin Uthappa is making the rounds on social media. After his practice session, Kohli walked up to Uthappa and hugged him, and was seen talking to him as well. KL Rahul was also close to them as well. Kohli was also seen talking to Gautam Gambhir during the practice session as well. Many felt that Kohli's gesture towards Robin was enough to silence Amit Mishra who recently claimed that Kohli has changed with fame and power.

BCCI shared a clip of all the Indian batters training hard at the practice session. The bowlers were putting in the hard yards as well. This Indian ODI side has a few new faces like Riyan Parag and Harshit Rana, who earned their maiden ODI call-ups. Washington Sundar who last played an ODI in December 2023 is also back in the Indian ODI squad.

Jasprit Bumrah continues to be rested from the game as of now. Mohammed Shami too is recovering well and is likely to make his comeback in the Test series against Bangladesh. Mohd Siraj will lead the bowling attack with Arshdeep Singh and Khaleel Ahmed for company. Khaleel played his last ODI in 2019 and was in the reserves for India's T20 World Cup squad.

Apart from Rohit and Kohli's return, the comeback of KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, and Shreyas Iyer is another important aspect of India's ODI squad. It will be interesting as to how the trio can be managed in the XI. Iyer lost his central contract but his title-winning IPL season threw him back into contention. Gautam Gambhir becoming the head coach of India realised the importance of Iyer and batted for their return to the side as well.

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma while addressing the pre-match press conference, spoke about the game plan of the new-look ODI team under Gautam Gambhir. The three ODI matches will be played on August 2, 4, and 7 from 2.30 pm IST. All the matches will be played in Colombo.
