In match no.63, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) hosted the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the MA Chidambram Stadium, Chennai. It was a must-win game for both sides. But the Orange Army came up top over Ruturaj Gaikwad’s side as they won by 5 wickets and qualified for the playoffs, helping the Gujarat Titans also qualify.

CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad won the toss and elected to bat first. They made a solitary change, bringing in Akeal Hosein in place of Gurjanpeet Singh. SRH did not make any changes from their last match. This was the reverse fixture as both sides met each other previously back in Hyderabad, where the Orange Army had the better of Chennai by 10 runs.

Ruturaj Gaikwad fails to score

Sanju Samson and Ruturaj Gaikwad came out to bat, as the former gave the Men in Yellow a flying start. Samson scored 27 off 13 balls, and the breakthrough was provided by SRH captain Pat Cummins. Urvil Patel followed despite a good start, scoring 13 runs, but could not convert his start into a big score.

Kartik Sharma and Ruturaj then stitched 42 runs partnership, of which 32 runs were scored by Kartik off 19 balls. He was dismissed by Cummins again, and soon Ruturaj Gaikwad, who was struggling in the match as he could not find the rhythm, was back on the score of 15 runs as he failed to hit a single boundary in his innings.

Dewald Brevis and Shivam Dube chose to change their gears. Brevis scored 44 off 27 balls, and Dube scored 26 runs. The Men in Yellow could post a total of 180/7 in their 20 overs, with Prashant Veer scoring 11 runs in 9 deliveries. They were disappointed as they fell 15-20 runs short.

Ishan Kishan seals the deal for SRH

While chasing, Abhishek Sharma had a breezy start to the second innings. Travis Head, who could not trouble the CSK bowlers, was back scoring 6 runs. Ishan Kishan and Abhishek tried stitching a partnership as the latter was back for 26 runs after pressure built on him. Kishan and Heinrich Klaasen stitched a 50 partnership in 28 balls.

The two then kept the runs flowing, stitched 75(41) before Klaasen was dismissed by a brilliant stumping from Sanju Samson on the score of 47 runs off 26 balls. Kishan brought up his fifty in 37 balls and kept the scorecard going. He was dismissed on the score of 70 runs but took his team home, and also possibly knocked CSK out of the tournament.

Was a good game of cricket- Ruturaj Gaikwad

Ruturaj Gaikwad was happy with the game, as he was proud of his boys and felt that they lost the match in the second last over, as they could not build pressure on the opposition.

Ruturaj said, "Was a good game of cricket. Was a good T20 pitch, didn't change much. Just missed out on few, but still proud of the boys. Just needed to cash in on the opportunity after the opposition lost a wicket, couldn't do that. Lot of positives to be honest."

"Samson has been playing really well for us. Missed out on a few key players. It depends on a lot of factors. Everyone gave their heart out today, proud of the boys. The fans support us through the thick and thin. We were much better this year compared to the last year."
