West Indies All-Rounder Carlos Brathwaite Names Some Rules From The Hundred Which Can Be Implemented In T20 Format

West Indies all-rounder Carlos Brathwaite reckoned that some of the rules in the recently concluded ‘The Hundred’ tournament should be included in the T20 format.

England and Wales Cricket Board’s (ECB) inaugural edition of The Hundred brought a lot of innovations in modern-day cricket with some new set of rules of its own.

Some of the rules like no need of an over, but each innings would consist of 100 deliveries and one bowler can bowl a maximum of 10 balls in a row. The batsmen change the ends after every 10 balls rather than every over in a normal game.

If a batsman gets caught then the non-striker will remain at the other end irrespective of crossing the crease. If a team is behind the over rate, they will be allowed one less fielder outside the 30-yard circle. This will happen from the point the penalty is enforced.

Brathwaite, who led Manchester Originals in the absence of captain Jos Buttler, wants few rules like fielder coming in the circle and non-striker remains at his end after a catch to be implemented in the T20 cricket in future.

“The rules were interesting. The rules that I think will probably come into play into mainstream T20 would be the extra fielder comes into the circle if you are past the cut-off time. I think that would give more of a team effort to get the overs in,” Brathwaite told ESPNcricinfo.

“I think T20 has got really, really slow. It was supposed to initially last less than three hours. Sometimes we’ve got T20s going on to four hours plus. So I think that will help quicken the game.

“It now means that you [switch ends] 10 times instead of 20. And the idea of not crossing if the batter gets out caught – the new batter comes into bat. I think those three are ones that could potentially be implemented or phased into T20 cricket in the future,” he added. 

Southern Brave won the inaugural edition of Men’s Hundred while Oval Invincibles won the first title of Women’s Hundred this year.
