West Indies vs South Africa 2021, 3rd T20I: Match Preview

Dominant West Indies face South Africa in the third T20I international at Grenada on Tuesday. They are 1-0 up in the series after their win on Saturday. They play the second T20I on Sunday before the third on Tuesday. South Africa headed into this five-match with a Test series win by 2-0.

Meanwhile, West Indies have all their T20 specialists back for the T20Is. They are placed 10th in the ICC T20I rankings which doesn’t do justice to the quality of cricket they play in this format. They are also the World T20 champions at the moment.

West Indies

The West Indies won the first T20I by 8 wickets. Evin Lewis(71) anchored the chased down 161 needed in 15 overs. All their top four batters got runs as the South African bowlers had a tough day in the office. After the openers set the game up, Chris Gayle ( 32 off 24) ad Andre Russell (23 off 12) took them over the line in a rather one-sided game. The Protean pacers took just one wicket.

The Windies would ideally like to keep the same performance in the remaining games. If they do that, they can win the series 5-0.

The Proteas face a completely different challenge in the T20I format than it was in the Tests. Though Quinton De Kock and Rassie van der Dussen got runs in the first game, it was not enough. The likes of Miller and Klaasen did not get runs in the middle-order.

Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje both went wicketless with the ball. They have several issues to sort out before they head into the remaining games. One of them would be to stop the Windies batters from scoring big.
