WI vs BAN: Bangladesh Fined 20% Match Fee For Maintaining Slow Over-rate In 2nd T20I vs West Indies In Dominica

On Wednesday, the International Cricket Council (ICC) stated that the Bangladesh National Cricket Team have been fined for maintaining a slow over-rate in the second T20 International (T20I) of the three-match T20 International (T20I) against the West Indies National Cricket Team.

The second match of the three-match T20I series between West Indies and Bangladesh was played at Windsor Park, Roseau, Dominica on Sunday, July 3.

West Indies National Cricket Team won the toss and opted to bat first in the match and they were able to score 193/5 with the help of Brandon King and Rovman Powell’s brilliant innings.

Chasing the target, only Shakib Al Hasan shined with the bat, smashing a half-century, and other Bangladesh batters failed miserably. The Mahmudullah-led side were able to score only 158 runs.

In an official media release on Wednesday, the ICC asserted that the Bangladesh National Cricket Team have been fined 20 per cent of their match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate in the second T20I against West Indies. ICC further stated that the Bangladesh National Cricket Team were ruled to be one over short of the target after time allowances were taken into consideration.

“Bangladesh have been fined 20 per cent of their match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate against the West Indies in the second T20I in Dominica. Richie Richardson of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees imposed the sanction after Bangladesh were ruled to be one over short of the target after time allowances were taken into consideration,” ICC said in an official media release.

“In accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offences, players are fined 20 per cent of their match fee for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time.

“Bangladesh captain Mahmudullah pleaded guilty to the offence and accepted the proposed sanction, so there was no need for a formal hearing. On-field umpires Leslie Reifer Junior and Nigel Duguid, third umpire Gregory Brathwaite and fourth umpire Patrick Gustard leveled the charge,” ICC said in an official statement.

Meanwhile, West Indies have a 1-0 lead in the series after the victory in the second game and the series decider will be played at the Providence Stadium, Guyana on July 7. Notably, the first game of the series was washed out.
