Yashasvi Jaiswal Break Suresh Raina's Record To Become The Youngest Indian To Score A T20I Ton

Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal became the youngest Indian batsman to score a T20I ton at just 21. He achieved the feat in the Asian Games semi-final against Nepal on Tuesday, October 3. 

Earlier today, India and Nepal played the Asian Games semi-final at the Pingfeng Campus Cricket Field, Hangzhou. India won the toss and opted to bat first scoring 202/4 in their 20 overs. 

The innings was headlined by Jaiswal’s maiden T20I ton as he scored 100 off just 49 deliveries. He hit eight fours and seven sixes during his innings striking at 204.08. Shivam Dube scored 25 off 19. 

However, the finishing kick to the innings was provided by Rinku Singh who scored 37 off just 15 balls at a strike rate of 246.67. The southpaw hit two fours and four sixes in his 15-ball knock doing his reputation as a finisher a world of good.

Nepal reached 179/9 in the chase falling short by 23 runs in the end. Ravi Bishnoi and Avesk Khan picked three wickets each. Arshdeep Singh took two and Sai Kishore took one. 

Yashasvi Jaiswal Breaks Shubman Gill’s Longstanding Record

Meanwhile, Jaiswal overtook Shubman Gill to become the youngest Indian to score a T20I ton against New Zealand in Ahmedabad on February 1, 2023. He was 23 years and 146 days old.

On the other hand, Raina had scored his maiden T20I ton against South Africa in the 2010 T20 World Cup in Gros Islet, West Indies. He was 23 years and 156 days old when he scored that hundred. 

The likes of Jaiswal and Singh recently made their T20I debuts for India. Yashasvi Jaiswal scored a century in his maiden Test match against West Indies in Dominica earlier this year. 

Rinku Singh made his T20I debut for India against Ireland in August earlier this year. He was roped into the team after his memorable season with KKR in IPL 2023.
