PC: X

Indian opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal unsettled Sri Lankan wicketkeeper-batter Niroshan Dickwella with on-field banter during the final day of the Galle Test on Tuesday, August 19. Dickwella was dismissed after the exchange with Jaiswal, further denting Sri Lanka’s run chase in the fourth innings.

Sri Lanka had shown strong resistance during the morning session as Dhananjaya de Silva and Sonal Dinusha brought up half-centuries. However, Ravindra Jadeja dismissed De Silva at short fine leg to break the partnership. Dickwella came to the crease at no. 7 when the team was struggling at 142-5.

Yashasvi Jaiswal tempts Niroshan Dickwella with IPL offer before wicket

Yashasvi Jaiswal began chirping from his fielding position at square leg when Niroshan Dickwella at the crease. The Indian batter urged the left-hander to play aggressively and pointed towards the square-leg boundary, challenging him to clear the ropes.

Jaiswal said, “Come on, we need to see some sixes from you!” Dickwella replied, “If you take me to the IPL.” Jaiswal then responded, “Hit some sixes, then I will.” Dickwella also replied to the slip fielder, saying, “Yes, I will, sir.”

The tactic appeared to work in the following over when Prasidh Krishna dismissed Dickwella. Krishna delivered a short ball outside the leg stump. Dickwella moved across to create room for the cut but failed to control the shot.

The ball took a faint outside edge and went through to Rishabh Pant, who completed the catch. Dickwella departed for 10, leaving Sri Lanka six wickets down and exposing the lower order.

Sri Lanka Reach 175/6 at Lunch as India Take Two Wickets

Sri Lanka reached 175/6 at lunch on Day 5. India need four more wickets to seal the Test and the hosts require another 197 runs for victory. Resuming from 84/4, Dhananjaya de Silva and Sonal Dinusha added 95 runs to keep Sri Lanka's hopes alive.

Dhananjaya brought up his half-century from 125 balls, while Dinusha soon followed with his fifty off 77 deliveries. Ravindra Jadeja eventually broke the partnership by inducing a top edge from Dhananjaya, who was caught by Manav Suthar at short fine leg for 59.

Niroshan Dickwella then struggled against Prasidh Krishna's short-ball attack. The left-hander eventually nicked one behind to Rishabh Pant and departed for 10. Debutant Keshara Nuwantha remained unbeaten on 8 from 27 balls, while Dinusha continued to bat fluently on 65 off 112 deliveries.

Yashasvi Jaiswal Struggles for Runs in Both Innings

Yashasvi Jaiswal endured a disappointing outing in the first Test against Sri Lanka at the Galle International Stadium, failing to make a significant impact in either innings. He scored 32 in the first innings before a controversial run-out and then fell for a three-ball duck in the second.

Jaiswal looked positive during the first innings. In the 11th over, he collided with Sri Lankan debutant Keshara Nuwantha while running between the wickets and fell to his knees.

Both Jaiswal and KL Rahul ended up at the same end after the mix-up. Sri Lanka briefly discussed whether to pursue the appeal, but they eventually went ahead with it and Jaiswal was given out for 32.

Jaiswal fell for a three-ball duck in India's second innings. Asitha Fernando bowled a good-length delivery outside off stump, and Jaiswal chased it without getting into a strong position. The ball took a bottom edge and went straight through to the wicketkeeper.
