Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill make huge gains in ICC Rankings after impressing against Zimbabwe

Team India players who recently impressed in the T20I series against Zimbabwe have made significant gains in the latest ICC Rankings, released by the governing body on Wednesday (July 17).

Soon after the completion of the T20 World Cup, a second-string Indian team toured Zimbabwe for a five-match T20I series. Shubman Gill led the Indian team to a fine 4-1 victory in the second. The tour started with a shock 13-run loss for the world T20 champions but they bounced back in style to win the next four games.

Yashasvi Jaiswal has moved up in the ICC rankings after his fine display in the series. The southpaw missed the first two games but hit the ground running once he linked up with the bat. He scored 36 runs in the third game before hitting an unbeaten 93 in the fourth game that helped India seal the series.

Jaiswal finished the series with 141 runs and has jumped up four places to sixth overall. He is the second highest ranked Indian batsman in T20Is with only Suryakumar Yadav ahead of him at the second spot. Australia's Travis Head is currently the top-ranked T20I batsman in the world.

Shubman Gill has also made a big gain in the rankings after doing well against Zimbabwe. The right-handed batsman led his side from the very front and finished the series as the highest run-scorer, scoring 170 runs with the help of 2 fifties. The consistent displays in the series have seen him jump up a whopping 36 places to 37th.

ICC Rankings for bowlers in T20Is:

Among bowlers, Zimbabwe pacer Blessing Muzarabani has jumped up 11 places to move to 44th. Muzarabani picked up six wickets against India. On the other hand, Washington Sundar has moved up 36 places to the 46th spot while Mukesh Kumar has moved to the 73rd spot after moving up 21 places. Sundar and Mukesh were the joint highest wicket-takers in the series, taking 8 wickets each.

England spinner Adil Rashid is currently the number-one T20I bowler in the world. Axar Patel at the 13th spot is the highest-ranked Indian bowler in T20Is. Among allrounders, Wanindu Hasaranga is at the top while Hardik Pandya (6th) is the highest-ranked Indian.
