You Don't Even Know Where Rahul Chahar And Varun Chakravarthy Are– Aakash Chopra Slams BCCI Selectors For Inconsistent Selection

Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra has criticised the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selection committee for inconsistency in team selection.
After the poor performance of the Indian team in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 major changes have been made to the Indian team and a few players who were given preference for the World Cup have been dropped from the team.

Responding to a fan’s query about inconsistency in the selection, Aakash Chopra on his YouTube channel said that the Indian team have made too many changes in recent times. He further highlighted that mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy and leg-spinner Rahul Chahar, who were part of the World squad have disappeared from the setup. He elaborated:
“It is sad because too many changes are happening. COVID has made the selectors’ job very easy, they can pick everyone. But after that, you become trigger-happy. The two spinners you had picked in the T20 World Cup, you wouldn’t have picked them with closed eyes, you don’t even know where Rahul Chahar and Varun Chakravarthy are.”

Chopra added that even if Ravichandran Ashwin was fit he wouldn’t have been part of India’s T20I setup. He said:
“They have totally forgotten them. Ravichandran Ashwin was the third spinner, he is also missing at the moment because of injury. But I don’t think even if he was fit, you would have played him in the T20 team.”
What is happening? When there is no consistency in selection, there is no long-term process – Aakash Chopra

The cricketer-turned-commentator questioned the inconsistency in the selection and said that the goals of the Indian team can’t be accomplished because a new player is selected for every other series. Aakash Chopra elaborated:
“What is happening? When there is no consistency in selection, there is no long-term process, you do goal setting but how do you reach there because every few weeks you get a new player.”
“If you don’t give proper opportunities to the new players and don’t get them prepared, you are actually doing a disservice. There has been a question of consistency in selection in the last little while. Therefore, I think it’s about time to put your foot down, get it sorted.”
