Former India cricketer Piyush Chawla believes that Kuldeep Yadav will be part of the playing XI for the Super 8 stage of the T20 World Cup 2024. He feels that spinners will play a huge role in the West Indies, where the next stage of the tournament will be played and pitches are slow.

India came into the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 with four spinners in the team, including Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, and Yuzvendra Chahal. But the pitches at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York spoiled the party for them as it favored pacers.

The pitch in New York offered uneven bounce along with being too paced. It so had uneven bounce and it didn't allow India to play three or four spinners. They went in with three seamers along with Hardik Pandya as the fast-bowling all-rounder in the team for the first three games.

With the kind of form Kuldeep Yadav has been in in the last few months, him not walking directly into the XI surprised many. But with now India qualifying for the Super 8 stage, they will be going to West Indies, where pitches are slow and offer help to spinners.

Therefore it is now expected that India will be playing a few more spinners in the team. They will be having the option of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal in the team and it remains to be seen who will be making it into the XI. Based on the current format, it won't be a surprise if Kuldeep gets the nod ahead and plays the first game of the Super 8.

Piyush Chawla pointed out that India didn't need spinners in the XI at New York but the Super 8 leg of the tournament will see spinners playing a huge role. He believes that Indian spinners will now come into play now. Speaking to reporters at the event, he explained:

"The pitch in New York was very dicey and the way India performed on that pitch and won three out of three games, there are very good chances (of the team) going forward. The spinners were not needed as much in New York but once you enter the second leg for the 'Super 8', the spinners will have a big role in the West Indies. Our spinners will come into play now."

I feel Kuldeep will get the nod - Piyush Chawla

Piyush Chawla further added that he will add one leg-spinner to the XI and according to him, Kuldeep Yadav will get the first preference. He believes that Kuldeep will be handy for the team along with Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja. He added:

"To be very honest only one will play, and I think Kuldeep will be the first preference because of what he has done in the last one and a half years. You have Axar and Jadeja who can give you the batting depth, so I feel Kuldeep will get the nod."

India has won three out of their three games in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. They have booked their berth for the Super 8 stage and will be playing their last League game against Canada, which will be played in Florida. There are high chances that the team might give Kuldeep Yadav a chance in the last league game.
