Since the inception of IPL in 2008, most batsmen have been used to facing all the bowlers since the tournament takes place every year. Due to that, the batsmen have learnt to pick their variations and milk them for runs. At times, they even succeed in pummelling the bowlers all over the park.

Over the years, several batsmen have taken their counterparts to the cleaners. It indeed takes plenty of games to get used to the variations and deceptions produced that bowlers come up with frequently. But it is also worth nothing that the short boundaries and batting-friendly pitches help the batsmen to milk the bowlers for boundaries.

We take a look five batsmen and most runs against a bowler in IPL:

146 runs – Rohit Sharma vs Piyush Chawla:

Mumbai Indians’ captain Rohit Sharma is arguably one of the greatest and destructive opening batsmen in IPL. With 4910 IPL runs at a strike rate of 130.79, Rohit Sharma sits third in the list of highest run-getters. He has scored 146 runs against leg-spinner Piyush Chawla while conceding his wicket twice to the bowler.

Hence, Rohit is not only the most successful IPL captain but is also extraordinary with the bat. It is worth noting that Piyush Chawla is one of the most experienced spin-bowlers in IPL, having taken 151 wickets in 158 games. Chawla has played for Kolkata Knight Riders, Kings XI Punjab, and will play for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2020.

147 runs – Shikhar Dhawan vs Harbhajan Singh:

Shikhar Dhawan was integral to the rise of Delhi Capitals in the last season and is a compact opening batsman. Along with Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan has formed one of the most successful opening pairs in Indian cricket. In IPL, the southpaw has featured in 162 games.

Shikhar Dhawan has mustered 147 runs against veteran off-spinner Harbhajan Singh and been out thrice to him. Harbhajan Singh is not only an experienced Indian cricketer, having contributed heavily to the national team’s success but also in IPL. After staying for nine years with the Mumbai Indians since 2008, the 40-year old went on to play for Chennai Super Kings.

152 runs – Virat Kohli vs Ravichandran Ashwin:

Virat Kohli, the highest run-getter in IPL history, is one of the best batsmen in the world currently, regardless of the format. For a batsman, who does not regularly deal in sixes, Kohli maintains a reasonably higher strike rate. His 5412 runs have come at a strike rate of 131.61 in 177 fixtures.

Against Ravichandran Ashwin, the RCB captain has 152 runs with no dismissals, which is an incredible achievement. Ashwin is one of the best off-spinners, capable of generating outrageous turn with the ball. He was part of CSK’s squad that lifted the trophy in 2010 and 2011. The 33-year old will turn out for Delhi Capitals in the upcoming edition.

158 runs – Virat Kohli vs Amit Mishra:

Virat Kohli makes it to this elusive list for the second time for his prolific run-scoring against another veteran spinner. Kohli might have a lackluster record as a skipper; however, there is no doubting him with the bat. With 973 runs, the Delhi batsman holds the record for most runs in a single season too.

The 31-year old has also taken apart leggie Amit Mishra for 158 runs so far but has lost his wicket twice to him. Amit Mishra is arguably one of the most experienced spinners, delivering impactful performance from the first season itself. The 37-year old’s 157 wickets are the second-highest in the tournament’s history.

175 runs – Suresh Raina vs Piyush Chawla:

Wrist spinner Piyush Chawla makes it to an unwanted list for the second time. It was Rohit Sharma, who has carted him for 146 runs while Suresh Raina has slammed him for a whopping 175 so far but was also dismissed four times by Piyush Chawla. The left-handed batsman is the second-highest run-getter with 5368 runs in 193 fixtures.

Piyush Chawla might be one of the most experienced spinners but also averages 27.14, which is relatively higher than most spin-bowlers. Meanwhile, Chawla will turn out for Chennai Super Kings this time; however, Raina might most likely miss this year’s edition due to personal reasons.
