The Indian Premier League (IPL) since its inception has served youngsters with the opportunity to showcase their talent in the biggest Twenty20 league in the world. Several current India stars like Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, and Rishabh Pant have IPL to thank for providing them with a platform and accelerated their success.

The current season of IPL also has seen plenty of youngsters thrive under pressure situations. Some of these players are also contenders for the emerging player of the season award.

India’s Under-19 star Ravi Bishnoi had the faith of Kings XI Punjab management as they gave him a maiden IPL cap in the first match itself. Bishnoi has exceeded expectations. The young leg-spinner has picked 12 wickets in 13 matches at an economy of 7.17.

He and Murugan Ashwin has applied pressure on the opposition batting as both the spinners kept the run rate in check in the middle-overs. The 20-year-old bowled a brilliant spell of 1/13 in 4 overs against Hyderabad while defending a low total of 127.

Bishnoi is one of the players KXIP would like to retain, irrespective of whether it’s a mega auction or not.

Arshdeep Singh was instrumental in Punjab’s turnaround this season, as KL Rahul can bench one of the overseas bowlers to get Chris Gayle in the team. Arshdeep gave excellent support to Mohammed Shami in the middle-overs and Chris Jordan in the death.

The young pacer from Madhya Pradesh has picked 9 wickets in 8 games at an economy of 8.77- which is commendable as he bowls regularly in the death overs as well. The left-arm pacer has shown shrewd use of the slower ball variations and hits the accurate length which troubles the batsman.

The wish of RCB fans to see Devdutt Padikkal in the IPL since last year was fulfilled when he was handed his maiden cap in the first game this season. And he proved that the hype was not for nothing by smashing 3 half-centuries in his first 4 matches.

At the time of writing, Padikkal is RCB’s second-highest run-scorer this season. The 20-year-old has accumulated 422 runs – just 9 behind Virat Kohli – at an average of 32 including 4 half-centuries. Some former cricketers even believe that the left-hander will soon be in the reckoning for the national team.

Ishan Kishan made his IPL debut at the age of 17 for Gujarat Lions. The Mumbai Indians spotted the talented youngster and bought him in 2018. Even after playing all 14 matches in 2018, he could make it into the eleven for only 7 games in 2019.

Kishan is having a breakthrough season in 2020. The 22-year-old has scored 395 runs in 10 matches at an average of 49.37 and a strike rate of 143- he is MI’s second-highest run-scorer. With Rishabh Pant omitted out of the limited-overs setup, Kishan will be vying for a national call-up.

Ruturaj Gaikwad

Ruturaj Gaikwad along with Sam Curran are the biggest positives for CSK in a season where they failed to qualify for the playoffs for the first time in the IPL. Gaikwad has scores of 0,5 and 0 in his first three IPL games. However, he turned the scores around after MS Dhoni’s comment of the youngsters lacking the spark.

The 23-year-old registered back-to-back fifties and is now a sure starter in the eleven next season. Gaikwad has displayed exemplary temperament in run-chases, and MS Dhoni acknowledged his talent after their victory over KKR.
