While Aaron Finch-led Australia has been in an ominous form almost across all departments in the ongoing ODI series against India, there are concerns about their pace spearhead Mitchell Starc. Mitchell Starc has not been in the best of forms in Australia’s home summer, accounting for only one wicket in two games while also leaking runs. However, skipper Aaron Finch is not overly worried about the same.

Mitchell Starc, who has been outstanding with the new ball in white-ball cricket in the last few years while also performing well in England this year, has looked off-colour. The left-arm seamer has so far bagged figures of 9-0-65-0 and 9-0-82-0 in the first two ODIs; however, the likes of Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins have compensated for Starc’s form. Nevertheless, with Cummins rested till the Test series, the 30-year old will have to pull up his socks and find some rhythm before the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Aaron Finch admits that Mitchell Starc has not been at his best and that the seamer sets relatively higher standards for himself when it comes to white-ball cricket, especially given his form in the limited-overs format. The Victorian added that there would be some discussions taking place about Starc’s usage or what they could do differently; however, the skipper assures there’s no need to panic.

He hasn’t been at his very best and you have to understand that his standards are a lot higher than what you expect from most other people because of how dominant he’s been the last eight, nine years — especially in the white-ball formats. There will be some conversations had today about what we can do slightly different, whether it’s a tactical thing, when we’re using him through the innings. But there’s definitely no panic stations from my point of view,” Aaron Finch said as quoted by Times Now.

Finch further said that David Warner being forced out of the remaining white-ball matches due to groin injury against India is indeed a body blow, terming the southpaw as one of the limited-overs great. However, the 33-year old acknowledges the candidates they have to fulfil the role in Warner’s absence.

“He’s an all-time great in one-day, T20 cricket. Any team that he’s not a part of is going to be slightly weaker. But we’ve got guys that can step up and really contribute in that role as well,” he added.
