Rishabh Pant may have lost his place in the playing XI in Tests but the team management did not drop him as the youngster was retained for the Bangladesh Tests. It is unlikely that Rishabh will get a chance to play the Test as wicketkeeper-batsman, owing to Wriddhiman Saha’s skills but he can always walk into playing XI as a specialist batsman.

Rishabh, who wasn’t released for any of the Vijay Hazare Trophy matches, warmed bench in all the three Tests against South Africa. After the third Test in Ranchi, he visited MS Dhoni’s residence in the city.

The youngster took to Twitter and shared few pictures from his visit –

Dhoni had visited team India’s dressing room after the win in Ranchi Test and it seems like he invited Rishabh for a pep-talk.

Rishabh was retained in the T20I squad as the selectors have decided to stick with him. Sanju Samson also made his comeback in the T20I side after four years but Rishabh will be doing the wicketkeeping duties.

There was no MS Dhoni in the squad as the selectors have moved on from him. It is unlikely that the former Indian skipper will now ever play for India and is likely to take his retirement after IPL 2020.

He had taken a break from the game after World Cup 2019 to serve the Indian Army. After his stint with the Army, he made himself unavailable for South Africa T20Is and was unavailable for Bangladesh series as well.

Now, there are clear indications that team management has moved on from him and he might only make a comeback if the team management fails to get a wicketkeeper ready for the World Cup next year.

India play Bangladesh in three T20Is next month and will then host West Indies. In January, India host Sri Lanka and will later travel to New Zealand. Men in Blue also host Australia in white-ball series in 2019.
