West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell was in top form in the previous edition of IPL. So much so, that he could single-handedly bulldoze any bowling line-up with his power hitting ability. But Russell has looked out of touch in the first half of the IPL with the bat. And former India spinner Pragyan Ojha has slammed his approach.

Russell has the highest score of 24 runs in the IPL 2020 thus far. He has however been economical with the ball and could be relied on at the death. KKR management continue to back him through his rough patch. However, there are no signs of improvement from his end in the tournament.

Ojha criticized Russell and said that he doesn’t looks like an improved cricketer. The former India spinner also mentioned that Russell has still not changed his approach and looks like the same player that he was four years before.

“Andre Russell is not an improved cricketer, he has not changed his game. You see all the top players, they have changed their approach. Andre Russell is playing just the way he was playing 4 years ago, that is a liability,” Ojha told Sports Tak

“Look at Jasprit Bumrah, when he came into the Mumbai Indians side and what he is today, you have to improve. You have to improve as a cricketer, cricket is evolving and you have to evolve, you cannot be stagnant.”

In IPL 2019, Russell accumulated 510 runs from the stipulated 14 games at an average of 56.66 and a strike rate of whopping 204.81. The Kolkata franchise will hope the West Indies star to continue his run in IPL 2020 as they chase their third title under the captaincy of Dinesh Karthik.
