The upcoming Asia Cup 2018 is not only the contest to check for the winner there is also a fight going on between the players in their rankings. If everything goes right for few players, one can see a massive turnaround in the ICC ODI rankings. Meanwhile, Babar Azam from Pakistan is eyeing to make an impact who earlier lauded Team India skipper Virat Kohli.
The classy right-handed batsman is chasing the number one rank in One-day International chart which is currently owned by Indian batting mainstay Kohli.
With the Indian skipper to be away from the impending Asia Cup 2018, it is the best chance for Adam to close in on the top spot.
A chance to gain some valuable points – Babar Azam
Azam reiterated he knew Kohli is way ahead in the ICC ODI batting charts. But, he would like to make the Asia Cup 2018 count to near Indian skipper in the batting chart.
However, Azam wants to give his first preference for the team, but during the course, he wants to make use of his incentive as well. Further, Babar added that he wants to consolidate his batting position as well.
”We as a team are looking forward to the Asia Cup. And I have some extra incentive in my individual ranking,” second-ranked batsman Babar said.
“I know Virat is way ahead in terms of rating points. But this is definitely a chance to consolidate my position at number two and gain some valuable ranking points,” Babar added.
Currently, Babar Azam is placed second in the batting charts with 825 points. On the other hand, Virat Kohli is at the pinnacle with 911 points in his kitty.
Meanwhile, Joe Root and Rohit Sharma nearing Azam as well while setting his eyes on the Asia Cup 2018.
England Test skipper Root is placed third with 818 points while Rohit bagged 806 points. Rohit has got the best chance to increase his ratings by performing in the 14th edition of Asia Cup 2018. Shikhar Dhawan is the other player who can boost his ratings.
