Former Indian National Cricket team skipper and head coach Anil Kumble has heaped praise on young Jasprit Bumrah, who did an outstanding job with the ball in the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Meanwhile, Bumrah returned as the highest wicket-taker in the series along with Australia’s Nathan Lyon with 21 scalps.

Since making his international debut in South Africa last year, Jasprit Bumrah has made the Test spot his own. He finished 2018 with 49 Test wickets to his name, the most by an Indian in his debut Test year. Moreover, he also became the first Indian fast bowler to pick three overseas five-wickets hauls in the same year. In addition to, Jasprit Bumrah picked nine wickets in the Boxing Day Test including a six-wicket haul which bagged him the man of the match.

This earned him accolades all over the world, and Anil Kumble is the latest addition to it. He said that Jasprit Bumrah had been a consistent performer in the domestic circuit for Gujarat over the years. He also has taken many five-wicket hauls, and thus he has the mental capability to take five-fers.

Yes, of course, I think he was always on the radar for being picked for Test cricket. He performed really well in domestic cricket. I mean the way he has bowled for Gujarat. He has picked up fifers. Whenever a bowler consistently picks up fifers even in a domestic game, then you know he has the mental capability of picking up a five-wicket haul,” Anil Kumble said to News18.

I mean Bumrah has showcased that at the domestic level and for him you can see he is planning his wickets and he is controlling the game and he knows when to bowl the ball. I think it is all about setting a batsman up and trying to get a wicket relentlessly coming in hard at the batsman and keeping the batsman really honest.

And we saw that with his capabilities of executing what he is thinking as well, I mean that can only come if you have the confidence and if you also have the ability to shut out all the other thoughts when you are running in. Because at the end of the day, clarity of thought is extremely critical whether you are a batsman or a bowler or a captain. So that clarity of thought process is there in Bumrah and you can see that it is very evident,” Kumble concluded.

Meanwhile, BCCI have decided to rest Jasprit Bumrah for the upcoming ODIs against Australia and the limited-overs leg against New Zealand keeping in view the ICC World Cup in England and Wales.
