Soon after bringing Test cricket to the country, Pakistan was hopeful of playing the first day-night Test in the home conditions against Bangladesh. But things haven’t gone as planned with Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) rejecting the offer of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), for playing Test under floodlights in Karachi.

They cited a lack of preparation time as the major reason for the refusal.

Bangladesh played their first day-night Test on the tour to India in November, which also happened to be the first day-night match in the subcontinent. Pakistan have already played four Tests under lights.

We have decided not to play day-night Test: Bangladesh Cricket Board

It would have been the second pink-ball Test in Asia but Bangladesh board has declined the PCB’s proposal to play their second and final Test in early April as a day-night affair, saying that the team is not prepared for it at the moment.

BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury stated that the Bangladesh team management believes that the team are not ready for a day-night Test and that the challenge should not be taken without proper preparation.

“We have spoken with our team management and they are not ready to play a day-night Test at the moment, due to lack of preparation,” Nizamuddin Chowdhury, the BCB chief executive, was quoted as saying by Dhaka Tribune.

“The board understands their [team management] point of view and, after taking everything into consideration, we have decided not to play day-night Test in Pakistan.”

The Bangladesh tour of Pakistan was finalised as a three-part affair because of the visitors’ concerns about the security situation. In the first leg, three T20Is were played, which was won by Pakistan 2-0.
