South Africa’s premier Test spinner, Keshav Maharaj, on Tuesday has signed a contract with Lancashire for the rest of the county season.

The left-arm orthodox spinner is all set to ply his trade for Lancashire County in their fixture against Worcestershire. The match will be played in Southport this week. Lancashire will then go against Somerset, Yorkshire and Hampshire away from home.

The 28-year old left-arm tweaker has been a terrific performer for the Proteas. He has bagged 90 wickets in his Test career so far at an impressive average of 27.65.

Of late only, Keshav bagged an impressive nine-wicket haul against Sri Lanka in the first innings of 2nd Test in Colombo. It was a terrific effort by the spinner. In friendly conditions, he ripped through the Sri Lankan batting line-up. However, it wasn’t enough to give Proteas any victory in the Test series.

Keshav Maharaj also bowled pretty well in unresponsive tracks like New Zealand and England. He returned with 15 and 17 wickets, respectively which proves he can perform in all conditions. However, Lancashire’s head coach, Glen Chaple was pleased to sign Maharaj as an overseas player for their county.

“We’re really pleased that Keshav has joined the Club. He’s a world-class spinner and will strengthen our bowling attack for the final four Championship games,” Lancashire’s Head Coach Glen Chapple said. “He is an international bowler with experience of bowling in English conditions, and we’re looking forward to welcoming him to Emirates Old Trafford,” he added.

“I’m thrilled to be signing for Lancashire for the remainder of the season. Having previously played in England with South Africa, it’s been an ambition of mine to return and play county cricket. I’m very much looking forward to joining up with the squad, and hopefully I can make a significant contribution to help the team during my time here,” Maharaj said.
