Things are just falling into place for Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2020. Their sojourn in UAE started with several setbacks as 13 of their members including two players tested positive for COVID-19 before Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh pulled out of the entire competition.

Due to the positive cases, the three-time champions had an extended quarantine period. And while the other teams were busy preparing for the seasons, the CSK players and staff were confined to their hotel rooms. But the gloom soon disappeared when the three-time champions started their tournament with a bang.

They overcome all the odds to beat defending champions Mumbai Indians in the tournament-opener to get their season up and running. However, the joy was short-lived as CSK suffered two crushing defeats in their following two games against Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals.

Against Royals, they lost the game by 16 runs while chasing 217. The scoreboard might suggest that the game went close but CSK never looked in contention. Following that, Delhi Capitals thrashed them by 44 runs. Chasing 176, CSK could only manage 131.

A ray of hope:

The two defeats have definitely dampened the mood of the CSK fans. While defeats are part and parcel of the game, it is the manner of the defeats that must have become a concern for the team. CSK are looking like a pale shadow of their usual dominating self.

But amidst all these gloom, there is still a ray of hope for CSK fans. This is not the first time, CSK have found themselves in this position. With these two losses, CSK have now lost two games in a row while chasing for the first time since 2008, which was the inaugural season of the tournament.

In fact, the MS Dhoni-led side had lost three games in a row while chasing in 2008. They had suffered reverses against Delhi Capitals (then Delhi Daredevils), eventual winners Rajasthan Royals and Deccan Chargers. But they had bounced back in style and had made it to the final where they lost to Royals. Having made it to the playoffs in all of their previous seasons, CSK definitely know a thing or two about bouncing back and one can expect them to do it again this season.
