Ehsan Mani has been elected as the new chairman on Tuesday (September 4) of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) unanimously during the board’s election. He has replaced Najam Sethi. Sethi resigned from his post following the formation of the Tehreek-e-Insaf-led government which was formed following the 2018 General Elections.
The event was held at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Mani is remembered for his successful tenure as an International Cricket Council (ICC) Chairman.
Sethi’s relationship with the current Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan had worsened after the former Pakistan skipper had accused Sethi of helping the Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) in 2013 General Elections. He was then the caretaker for the Chief Minister of Punjab.
Mani was elected after the nomination given by Imran himself. He didn’t face any opposition in the elections and will currently serve at this post for a three-year period.
Under the supervision of PCB’s Election Commissioner Justice (Retd) Afzal Haider and Deputy Election Commissioner Ahmed Shehzad Farooq, Mani earned the top-brass post.
Well, it must be noted that all the 11 members of the Board of Governors were part of the process. Meanwhile secretary Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC), captain retired Jahanzaib Khan was also present during the election process as the observer.

Ehsan Mani has earlier served as the ICC President:
Mani had represented the PCB in ICC from a period spanning 1989 to 1996. He also served as the ICC finance and marketing committee from a period of 1996 to 2002. He was also a key man in making sure the lucrative sale of the media rights of ICC.
Mani was the man who brought money into cricket which wasn’t there before. Mani also served as the ICC President from 2003 to 2006. He further worked as a consultant with various other boards. It was to help them out with the TV sales rights.
The immediate task for Ehsan Mani within Pakistan Cricket Board will be to review the legal battle which was started by the ex-chairman Sethi over the two unplayed bilateral series against India.
PCB and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will face off before the ICC’s dispute on October panel on 1st October. PCB have claimed to have incurred a loss of USD 70 million loss of revenue.
Moreover, it was because India didn’t play the two different series which were slated to be hosted by Pakistan.

Both the board agreed to it but BCCI later decided to move out of the tour as the political conditions between the two countries have worsened in the recent times.
However, with the appointment of Imran Khan as the Prime Minister of the country, things might improve in the coming days.
