Team India came back strongly in the five-match Test series against England by winning the third Test at Trent Bridge in Nottingham by 203 runs. They have ensured that series remains alive and they still have a chance of winning the series. Meanwhile, one area where India hasn’t been perfect is the slip catching department as Shikhar Dhawan sheds light on the fielding improvement.

The slip fielders haven’t been consistent enough, and it has also been evident from their catching in the first two Tests in the United Kingdom (UK).

However, their slip catching was much improved in the third Test in Nottingham. It was ahead of the fourth Test at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton that opener Dhawan revealed how the Indian fielding coach R Sridhar is helping the players improve their slip catching skills.

England vs India: Slip catching played a prominent role in India winning the third Test

Slip catching played a significant role in India winning the third Test in Southampton. KL Rahul, who was at the second slip was quite superb and took a total of seven catches. It was a much-improved fielding performance from the visitors.

Subsequently, it has come to their rescue, and the training methods of Sridhar has helped them a lot.

The drill which is operated by R Sridhar consists of an opaque board. The board was placed a little above ground level to have enough place to slide the ball in.

Sridhar kept throwing the ball through space from one, and the fielders were catching on the other. The board makes sure that there is no eye contact.

As a result, the players will have to judge the trajectory on their own and set their focus on the ball.

Shikhar Dhawan said that the session helped him improve his reaction time for the slip catching in the slip cordon.

“Had a good slip catch practice session with an innovate drill set up by R Sridhar to improve reaction time. Pro-tip to everyone watching this video: Stay low and keep soft hands to not those tough slip catches,” he wrote on Twitter sharing the video.
